how do I get my HDMI ( ATI 7770) audio to work? opensuse

my system specs are AMD Sabertooth 990 fx motherboard 1100Ti be cpu with a ATI 7770 vidio card.
I am using opensuse 13.1
I am using HDMI and installed XMC but discovered that I wasn't getting any sound at all so I went into settings\sound and noticed that it only lists Digetal output (S/PDIF)-built in audio and I cannot change this.

I diod the aplay -L command

I am not sure as to how to change this so that I am using my Videocards HDMI sound?
I did check for similar posts but they confused me more then helped .

While I have nVidia hardware, I did slay this particular dragon before, and with openSUSE:

ok so I had thought that maybe the HDMI audio wasn't working because of not having the fglrx drivers in salled but this hasn't done anything lol

check your GUI sound settings. in the Gnomeshell you have to tell the sound server what output to use for audio. sadly it does not auto-detect, at least not in my case.

ok where do I find Gnomeshell and how do I check that?

gnomeshell is only if you are running it for your GUI. again it all depends on your GUI and the sound interface you are running.

FYI the HDMI sound settings will only be there while an HDMI cable is connected to a device that has HDMI sound capabilities.

And I'll add something that was in the other little writeup; for me, unless the HDMI cable was plugged in, and the other device (in this case, my TV) was powered up BEFORE I booted, the device was inactive, and wouldn't show ANY information. Do you have the other device powered up and HDMI connected before you boot?
