Lightbulb How do I get kali linux up and running in a VM using VirutalBox

Hello there people,

Just new here.

So I've always used Windows for all the works I do, but have been wanting to try out Linux for a long time because of the good things heard about it. And the direction of my work actually will need Linux.

I wanted to try out Kali since I've been recommended to try it out by many people

But when I try to do an initial installation on VirtualBox, every time it fails and spits out an error (don't know which one in specific since been many times, and all are random and different)

I know, there's not a lot of information I could give out but thought if this is a widespread problem with installing kali on VirtualBox, some people may know

I have no idea why that might be. It's a tutorial on how to safely learn how to use Kali.

What browser are you using and what reason is it giving you?

I just accessed it using Safari on an ipad. The site's certificate is expired or otherwise invalid. Depending on the browser you are using, you will have to click through a few dialogs to access the site anyway.

Please read this paragraph from Kali's documentation:
Quote:
it is NOT a recommended distribution if you’re unfamiliar with Linux or are looking for a general-purpose Linux desktop distribution

I'm getting the same issue on Chrome, it says the site certificate is invalid.

Linux Voice is no longer an independent publication. The web site is a legacy site. I suspect that that may explain a lot.

What is left of Linux Voice is now part of Linux Magazine.

Which is a darned shame, because the Linux Voice magazine was fun to read. Linux Magazine is, how shall I put this? rather pedantic in a pedestrian sort of way, but I maintain my subscription.

I used to love the Linux Voice podcast, but it's been silent for several months now. It was the only one I could listen to without getting annoyed or bored.

You can download a VirtuaBox custom image from Offensive Security. In my opinion using Kali to learn linux is not a good idea and would recommend a regular desktop version like Mint. It it is also very easy to install as a VirtualBox virtual machine.

I know what you mean. But there is one or two more. Bad Voltage (with our very own jeremy) is not annoying and not boring. And Late Night Linux. Personal opinion of course.
