How do I get blackberry desktop software to work?

I downloaded it to the desktop from here

https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...247A852FAD3647

but I can't figure out how to open it and install it, or run it. Thanks.

I own a 9530 Hacked Storm.

Blackberry software

I found it simpler myself to run it on my Windows partition. I guess one could do a Windows Virtual Machine install and run it also that way.

My storm mounts OK in all my Linux installs as a mass storage device.

Good Luck with it. Time to learn new tricks I guess.

So, should I start by downloading this?

I already copied my data from the computer to the phone (while I still had windows) through windows explorer. I assume I need the blackberry software to move it from my phone back to the computer now that I have Linux, but maybe I'm mistaken. Maybe there's some other way.

OK. Open a Terminal. Copy and paste what I wrote into it. You will have to learn I guess how to use a terminal sooner or later.

Like

Code:
apt-cache policy barrybackup
and

https://wiki.debian.org/VirtualBox

Edit: I mentioned what kind of Blackberry Phone I have but no mind readers here on what model you have.

Sorry! 'Curve 9320'.

I should copy and paste the two lines from your first post, or the line from your second post? Thanks for your patience.

I am in Puppy Linux right now and I am going to show my 2 internal drives in my Blackberry 9530 Storm.

I have the original flash drive that is soldered to the board and also added a 16 gig micro sd card.

Both mount just fine but the phone setting must be set as a mass storage device. I am figuring your problem is more
suited for http://forums.crackberry.com/ than here as when I got mine. I used their forum posts to make this thread .

Now I have full control over my Blackberry. The only thing I needed the Control Center for was my Opera Mini install.
I do not need it for anything else as I can copy and do what I wish evidenced in my Puppy Linux install below

http://www.imagebam.com/image/424705320202751

My Phone automounts and all data can be copy and pasted from laptop to phone. But like I said. I set up the phone as a mass storage device so when I plugged it in to the usb port. I would get the usb drive icon to show like in the screenshot.

To trip you out even more. This screenshot is a Linux install running INSIDE of Windows 7 as a .exe program install and is

I don't mean to deliberately overlook the information I've already been given, which is considerable, but while I try to grapple with it all, I have a couple of preliminary questions.

rokytnji, first you said:

Quote:
I guess one could do a Windows Virtual Machine install and run it also that way.
And when I asked if I should begin by downloading windows virtual machine, you said No. May I ask why not?

Secondly, I failed to figure out how to open a terminal and input those codes. I got as far as finding 'terminal' in accessories, and choosing to open a terminal, and pasting in the codes and hitting enter. I'll have to be taken through this step by step, I'm afraid!

You cant install a download for Windows Virtual machine. It won't work in Linux. Linux is not Windows.

Hence the NO

The youtube link is for you . Search "Install Windows VM inside Of Debian"

Go to "How-to install VIRTUALBOX on Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Debian" watch the video.

Step by step for

Quote:
I got as far as finding 'terminal' in accessories, and choosing to open a terminal, and pasting in the codes and hitting enter
After Enter.
Terminal spits out a readout.
Left click and highlight the readout with touchpad or mouse.
Right click next and select copy.

Under the quick reply box here is a go advanced button.
Left click it.
Look for the # sign on the toolbar in the advanced reply window.
Left click it.
Make sure you have a blinking cursor between the code tags that show up.
Right click and select paste.

Terminal readout is now shown between code tag brackets

] cat /etc/os-release
PRETTY_NAME="Debian GNU/Linux 7 (wheezy)"
NAME="Debian GNU/Linux"
VERSION_ID="7"
VERSION="7 (wheezy)"
ID=debian
ANSI_COLOR="1;31"
HOME_URL="http://www.debian.org/"
SUPPORT_URL="http://www.debian.org/support/"
BUG_REPORT_URL="http://bugs.debian.org/" [

I left out the

code and /code on purpose as a demo.

PS. The links in my sig are not for show and are free. Most work.

Not to go off topic, but I'm trying to get 'flux' running before I do too much more reading from my monitor. My eyes are not what they used to be. Do you happen to know how I might do that? Here's the thread I started on that.

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...an-4175501391/

I'm wondering if the instructions you posted above might also be appropriate for installing flux.
