how do I get an executable to work?
I cannot figure out how to "install" a program I downloaded. It comes in Windows, Mac, and Linux flavors, and I did acquire the Linux version, which comes in a ZIP file. After I unzip it and cd to the directory it is in, I have the following contents:

[fsl@localhost MRIConvert]$ ls

dicom.txt mcverter
excite.txt MRIConvert numaris.txt
fileformats.txt philips_mr.txt

How do I run either of these executables, mcverter or MRIConvert (latter has a GUI). When I try to run from the command line, I get this:

[fsl@localhost MRIConvert]$ mcverter
bash: mcverter: command not found

[fsl@localhost MRIConvert]$ MRIConvert
bash: MRIConvert: command not found

I read somewhere to use ./ before the name, but get this:

[fsl@localhost MRIConvert]$ ./mcverter
bash: ./mcverter: /usr/lib/ bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory

[fsl@localhost MRIConvert]$ ./MRIConvert
bash: ./MRIConvert: /usr/lib/ bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory

Here is more detail on the files that came in the ZIP:

[fsl@localhost MRIConvert]$ ls -al
total 24600
drwxrwxr-x 2 fsl fsl 4096 Mar 9 14:44 .
drwx------ 35 fsl fsl 4096 Mar 10 14:21 ..
-rw-rw-rw- 1 fsl fsl 24177 Oct 21 2008 dicom.txt
-rw-rw-rw- 1 fsl fsl 15609 May 16 2007 excite.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 fsl fsl 5102 Apr 26 2007 fileformats.txt
-rwxr-xr-x 1 fsl fsl 2025928 Jan 11 16:50 mcverter
-rwxr-xr-x 1 fsl fsl 4529292 Jan 11 16:50 MRIConvert
-rw-rw-r-- 1 fsl fsl 2162627 Jan 27 16:16
-rw-rw-r-- 1 fsl fsl 16307742 Jan 27 16:17
-rw-rw-r-- 1 fsl fsl 8745 Jul 7 2006 numaris.txt
-rw-rw-rw- 1 fsl fsl 1436 Apr 23 2008 philips_mr.txt
[fsl@localhost MRIConvert]$

I had an earlier version working a few months ago, but cannot recall how I made it work back then. Thanks for pointing me to what I should be reading to understand and fix this problem once and for all.

The latest binaries link statically to the wxWidgets libraries
make sure you have that installed, you may be better off getting the source code if available and compiling them

To build from source, follow the instructions originally from the LCNI wiki (currently down) for building MRIConvert in Ubuntu linux, but get the source code here:

You may want to unzip and try running the linux executable :
