how do I get a persistent usb hd device name in mandriva
I loaded mdk spring 2007.1 on a 20g drive thats in a powered enclosure connected to a powered usb hub. mdk boots when I have all the orginal usb devices connected and turned on (mouse, printer, etc). If I turn off the printer or try to connect the usb hd to the primary usb port the kernel panics.
Can someone carefully explain what I must do to use udev or whatever to make the usb hd (sdb1) a persistent device name (myhd)? Haven't tried mandriva
Does mandriva use udev for managing its devices, and if it does you would need to write some udev rules for your devices.

Instead of using the device name (/dev/sdb1), you can also mount by either UUID or volume label.
E.g. use tune2fs -L to set a label and then in /etc/fstab replace /dev/sdb1 with that label. PS: If those ~10 pages of log were relevant to your question, enclosing them in CODE tags would have made them less of a scrolling contest. |
