Question How do I format multiple hard drives with root?

I am trying to format several hard drives so I can load different distros on each to try them. However when I go into Mandrake and try to format another driver with / it says that that partition already exists and won't let me do it. How do I format the new partitions so that I can load different distros of each and still have them boot independent of the others? If I name the mount point other then / will I have problems loading software that wants to see / as the root directory? Can anybody help with this?

No need to assign a mount point if you are just partitioning and formating a drive.

Use fdisk of cfdisk to partition and mkfs to format. You will be able to specify the mount point when you install the new OS.

If you want to copy any files then you can create a mount point but it doesn't matter what you call it.
