How do I find out when a directory was created?

This is going to seem a bit inflamatory...

In Windows XP, to find out when a directory was created, I right-click the folder icon and select Properties.

In Linux, I can't find out when a directory was created because the date changes anytime the contents of the directory change.

This is quite simply shocking. Not only is this a fairly basic feature (IMHO), the proprietary OSes have had it for years.

Please tell me how wrong I am by pointing me to a command that gives me the information I'm looking for...

As a matter of fact there's no way to find a creation
time under Linux/Unix ... I can't understand why
you're upset about this, though :) It was like that
for the past 40 years and no one seems to feel it's
a nagging pain in the proverbial ... otherwise someone
would have done something about it ;}

Cheers,
Tink
