The subject pretty much sums it up. How do I find out the bitrate of my mp3 files?

im sure there are many ways.
one:
(file_size * 8) / length of song in seconds
this gives you a decent approximation.
say i got a 6,323kb song. 4:29 in length
that gives me ~188000 and winamp says 192.
(6,323,000 * 8) / ( 269) =~ 180000
or
two:
open the mp3 in xmms. as far as i remember it tells you.

with xmms if you right click on a song in the playlist you can get the file info, including bitrate... If it's variable it will give average bitrate.
With KDE filemanager, right click and look at the properties, metainfo. I will also give bitrate (or at least av bitrate with vbr)

Gives me just what I need to know to convert an audiobook to realistic mono. (A human narrator ripped in stereo at 320K+ is ludicrous, but it helps to know the starting info going in!) Thanks!
