How do I edit the BIOS?

I am running redhat linux 8 and have a SoundMAX Digital Audio card. When I run sndconfig, it says my soundcard is supported but is disabled and I need to edit the BIOS to enable it. How do I edit the BIOS?

It should be in 'Advances Chipset Features' (option 'On-Borad Sound' or similar). You can enter BIOS when you press 'Delete' during memory count (just after you turn the machine on).

Some systems have this configure. If <del> doesn't work, the following are also used:

<F1>
<F2>

During the first stage of powering up your computer (when you turn the power switch on, push the button, whatever) you should see something like press Del to enter setup, or something along these lines ( I know for sure Comapaq computers require to press F10; my generic self built AMD machne enters BIOS when I press Del key), so once in BIOS look through the options there. Contact the manual for your motherboard or computer (if you bought it from a manufacturer such as Dell, Compaq, Gateway, IBM, etc.).

I'll throw in the off one I've seen on a Toshiba once:
TAB during the bootup sequence.

:)

Cool
