how do i dual boot suse and vista
 

Alright I'm new to Linux and i got fed up with Vista's constant crashing and bull crap. The thing is though I dont want to get rid of Vista because I am a gamer and I dont want to be going through withdrawl if my games dont work on Linux. but the thing is though that I dont know how to install OpenSUSE 10.2 as a dual boot with vista already installed, i already set up a partician in the windows install, 21 gigs. Could someone please guide me through getting the installer to boot and how to install SUSE 10.2 on as a 2nd os alongside Vista in a dual boot config. the reason i ask this is because for some reason the installer wont boot from the dvd i have, i tried loading it in rebooting and in vista itself, both times it wouldnt boot the installer.

If the distro DVD won't boot then you need to build a linux boot floppy. I would expect SUSE to do this for you; try running the DVD from Vista and see what happens. I would bet that it'll start running and give you a window with some options, and one of those options will be to create a boot floppy or perhaps a boot CD ROM.

As for the rest of your question, the distro installer will handle the whole thing for you and when it is done running you'll have a dual boot system ready to go.

Perhaps the DVD was not burnt properly. When you browse the DVD from in Vista, there should be many files and folders, if there is only the SUSE.ISO single file on the disk, it was not burnt properly. Second, make sure the DVD drive is set to boot before the hard drive in the bios. If this is a Dell computer, you need to hit F12 at the Dell splash to select the DVD drive to boot from.

thanks for the help everybody, i incorrectly burnt the file, but it wasnt an iso file on the disc, it was corrupt because i selected extract to disc instead of burn to disc on the iso burning program i have.
