How to boot linux into external hard drive "F"
 

I want to install ubutu on my external hard drive without disturbing windows xp.

If you can watch short vidoes then look at:

2) "New Screencast: Installing Ubuntu with Windows Dual-Boot" at http://doc.ubuntu.com/screencasts/

If you already have the Ubuntu CD, see if you can boot from it and see if the installer (and the live Linux) can see the external drive.

If the installer cannot see the external drive, then some more research is required.
