How Do I Disable the Modem?

I just installed Ubuntu. I'm dual booting ubuntu/XP. It will not let me into Linux. I get this error code:

BusyBox v1.1.3 (Debian 1:1.1.3 - 3ubuntu3) built-in shell (ash)

/bin/sh: can't access tty: job control turned off
(initramfs) _

I was looking around the forums and saw my answer:

It's trying to configure the modem. Try disabling the modem in BIOS and/or using the alternate install CD.

But, I'm afraid, I don't know how to do that. Please help.

I know how to disable hardware in the bios on thousands of computers, but at this moment, not yours. Because they are all different. You can also open the box and pull the pci modem out if you don't use it. Just remove one phillips screw holding it in place and wiggle it out like a dentist wiggles out a tooth. Make sure it is un-plugged and grab the box with one hand before sticking the other one in, it's best to be standing on a concrete floor to minimize static electricity.
