How do I dial an internet connection on Ubuntu?

How do I make my computer dial an internet connection? I'm pretty sure I've got my modem set up right, now I just need to make it dial out. I don't know where to go to tell it to dial. Unlike Freespire, Ubuntu doesn't have a place to actually dial out when you click "Internet" on the application list. Thanks.

P.S. If it's any help to explain, I have used other versions of Linux that had KPPP and figured out how to dial there, it was self-explanitory.

I am running kubuntu. So I have kppp for this (but I do not have a modem, Ethernet / wireless instead)
But you are running ubuntu, so you'll need a similar tool, and it looks like gnome-ppp is what you want.
Is this installed? If not install it.
