How do I create a bootable DVD of Suse Linux 9.2 live using Nero Burning ROM SE ???
Well Newbie doesn't quite describe me, as I have yet to get Linux going on my machine. So, haven't even got that far yet.
Have wanted to have a go at linux for quite a while now, and saw a mag with Suse Linux 9.2 Live included on its free DVD (Computer Buyer).
Read the instructions and burnt the ISO file to a DVD. Turned off and restarted the machine - Nothing. Bit more research and found out that I need to make the DVD a 'bootable' DVD (Yeah, thats right I know *@ck all).
So, I am using Nero Burning ROM SE. In the left hand column I can choose an icon that says - DVD ROM (Boot). Great, that must be what I want. Managed to browse my way to the ISO file image. Try that, and leave everthing else as default. All I get is a very quick flash of what I guess is an error message on the screen and I can make out '......1.44MB.....'
So, back to Nero Burning ROM and in the BOOT tab there is the choice to browse your way to the file image as above, but the second part of this page has a check box for ' Enable Expert Settings'. Well, me no expert, but had a go anyway.
Without checking the check box the defaults are:-
Kind of emulation: Floppy Emulation 1.44MB
Boot Message: Nero Boot-Loader V6.0
Load Segment of Sectors (hex): 07C0
Number of Loaded Sectors: 1
So, that is how it went second time round.
For the third attempt I thought I would choose 'No Emulation' against the item that says 'Kind of Emulation'
This time when I restarted the machine it just hung - a flashing dash in the top left hand corner of the monitor.
The other choices for 'Kind of Emulation' are: 1 - Floppy Emulation 1.20MB, 2 - Floppy Emulation 1.44MB, 3 - Floppy Emulation 2.88MB, 4 - Hard Drive Emulation.
Everything else I left as default, except I gave the DVD the title of LINUX.
The question is - where am I going wrong? What do I need to do to make it work?
Please, please, please let me know if you know how to get this going.
Regards
Chas
