Question How do I change a password for a folder on a web server?

New to Linux, new to the forums, thanks for having me!

Anyway, I inherited a simple Linux web server and I know next to nothing about it. Previous admin hosted files in a folder on this web server and gave out the username 'ezdownload' and password to those who needed access.

The folder structure looks like this: /software/webserver/apps

I need to change the password for ONLY the 'apps' directory. There are two other folders under the Webserver directory that I do not want to touch.

Looks like I might be able to do this, type: htpasswd -c /software/webserver/apps ezdownload

But I'm not sure if I have that syntax right so I thought I should ask first. Because if I screw this up then I really am up a creek.. also, do I need to browse to the apps directory first before running the command?

thanks for your help!

Yeah, no. Don't use that.

man htpasswd
PHP Code:
-c     Create the passwdfile
so I'd use:
htpasswd /software/webserver/apps ezdownload
which will prompt for password change only for user ezdownload.
