How do I build and install glibc 2.3.1 for SuSE 9.0?
 

I have SuSE 9.0. I need to build a .so library that compile against glibc 2.3.1. When I loaded SuSE 9.0 the glibc was 2.3.2. I downloaded the glibc 2.3.1 source. First of all can I just download the library somewhere? If not, how do I build this? How do I install glibc 2.3.1? How do I make sure I am using glibc 2.3.1 and not glibc 2.3.2? And then can I just build my .so library?

The glibc library is the single most critical library of them all. Pretty much all software on your system depend on it so I would like to raise a flag of warning before you go ahead and put your system in an unusable state.

This library you want to build, does it only compile against glibc version 2.3.1? That sounds pretty strange to me - did you try building it against your current version of glibc?

Oh, and the usual question: You do have the glibc devel package installed, right?

I do have glibc devel 2.3.2 installed. I can build my .so library for glibc 2.3.2.
Do I need to have devel 2.3.1 installed also? I guess if I do where do I get this and how to build?
I had someone suggest to install glibc 2.3.1 in /usr/lib-2.3.1; so I don't corrupt my system.

But when I went to that FTP site and it has the latest version of glibc 2.3.2. I am looking for glibc 2.3.1.

Now I got more information. The people that needed this didn't have a distribution they had Linux 2.4.26 and got glibc 2.3.1 from the Slackware 9. So, with that said it is a different problem from what I initially started from.
