How do I backup Kubuntu (Hardy Heron)
I have a good working Kubuntu (Hardy Heron ) and I want to save a backup of my system. What's a good step by step of how to do that.

What type of media are you wanting to use as the backup?

just copy your /home directory to any external device (like a spare hard drive or DVDs, etc)

Hi. Thanks for getting back to me.
What I'm trying to do is get a complete systems backup. I'm continually fooling around with Kubuntu and exploring how to use it. I have at least twice lost everything and had to start over. This time I wanted to be able to have a backup DVD so that if I mess it up I can simply restore my system as it is now by booting to a dvd and starting over. I don't think copying my /Home folder would be enough, would it? I tried to do that with Dolphin and I got an error. harecanada |
I think sbackup will do the job. You can find a nice tutorial about it on http://www.ubuntugeek.com/backup-and-restore-your-ubuntu-system-using-sbackup.html

iggymon, I installed Home User Backup which was in the Add/Remove list. It says it is a dar application. It seemed to work OK until it got to the verification button and nothing happened. So I have two DVDs that apparently are backups but haven't been verified. Otherwise the program is perfectly simple to use.
