how do I access my user files from the root?

I need to install new drivers for my grafic card on SUSE linux 10.0 AMD64.I figured out I need to use the command init 3 and log in as root user. The update will not install using any of the terminal windows within Gnome.
Now, while I am in the root how do I retrive the file I need to install which is located in in my user directory (/home or something like that...sorry I don`t have that computer in front of me)???

did you ever used the tab key in a terminal? it complete or suggest you filenames and commands.

so if you type

ls /home
and press tab, you can see the list of the users's homes...

when you have selected the home, you can continue like that until you find the file
