How do I access cloned version of mint 19.2 install?


Have just cloned a source install of 19.2 with Clonezilla to target partition on 2nd HDD

... how do I get the bootloader to list the cloned version??

If you know where this clone is you can write a custom entry in custom.cfg or 40_custom. Assuming the original install had a grub.cfg you could just use the configfile command with the partition of the clone as the grub root.

Could you possible give me a step-by-step and terminal commands as my knowledge doesn't extend to being conversant with the details you mention?? (The clone located on sda5 which a partition on a separate hdd from where the original located)

Update: for whatever reason i can no longer get access to bootloader, but instead see page with following text:

GNU Grub version 2.02

Minimal Bash-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions.

Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions..... there is a cursor 'Grub_' flashing presumably for input .... update2 if i type 'exit' the page closes

and the bootloader screen then appears ......

The grub prompt means that grub isn't finding the grub.cfg.

at the grub prompt will give a indication of where it is looking for the bootloader.

Possibley loading a separate grub bootloader. Maybe going into bios settings and changing boot order will work
