How determine the bps I am getting using Mepis 6.0

How do I know or determine the bps I am getting from my Internet service provider?

Where on my screen do I go to learn this?

How can I always know or keep track on my computer the fluctuations in bps I get over the course of a month?

To track automatically, you need a script that does the equivalent of this , but from the command line. Try searching Google with something like "speed test command line".

If you know an ftp site that is always faster than you connection, you could have you script just download the same file at regular intervals and record the time.
