how come i dont have a root password?

i realized that i cant log in as root because i dont have a root password. which is really weird because some people said you were supposed to set it up when you were installing the os. but i never did one and it never requested one. anyone know what i can do?

What distribution are you using?

Ubuntu sets up the first user you create as an administrator and you can do root tasks using sudo. When it asks for a password, you use your users password.

Very similar to how Mac OS 10 is setup.

sudo passwd root
=)
