How can I view QuickTime (.mov) files on my Acer Aspire One with Linpus Linux?

I managed to download VLC with my IT guy but it would only play the sound and no image. We tried downloading various other packages and codecs even but no luck at all. Has anyone out there managed to view a .mov file on Linpus? If so could you please give me a very simple step by step guide in what I need to do? Thank you so much!
