how can i use a proxy to surf anonymously?

i cant access many websites in my country and until now i used UltraSurf under WindowsXP, but now i switched to Linux (Ubuntu 7.10) and i dont know what to do. Im completely new to Linux, i have no idea how things work :/. I heard about Tor but i dont know how to install and run it, i need a guide for absolute beginners! im the definition of a Linux n00b! :P

Both use ubuntu so you should find the steps you need to so tor/privoxy start working
