How can i setup dns and sendmail


hai all,
iam Fresher for linux.i want to send a mail using the sendmail
How can i send a mail using sendmail and what is setup i have to do in DNS.plzzz tell me

Host name :vinay
domainname:test.com
Ip address:192.168.1.1
Dns server:192.168.1.1

I want to this system as a DNS server and Mail server......
what entries i have to modify...........

You need to setup sendmail :-D . And have to add MX entry in your DNS DB.
There are many How Tos on the Internet ... they can solve your problem

Apparently sendmail is very complicated to set up and not very secure. There are alternative SMTP servers, Qmail is used by Yahoo (apparently) so it must be good! I wonder what Gmail uses...

Google probably wrote their own software, since they do a lot of customization. Sendmail is complex to set up, but not so bad once you get the hang of it. There really haven't been many security issues discovered recently either. Still, postfix, exim, or qmail may be the way to go nowadays.
