How can I run a program on .net platform on Ubuntu?

I'm new to this forum. I recently updated my O.S to Ubuntu, would like to know if it is possible to execute windows software on my Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS O.S.

I want to download a software on my home desktop which I have updated to ubuntu. GEMLinkplus Software for Magnetometers and Gradiometers - Gem Systems This is the software and it is on .net platform.

Will I be able to run this software on Ubuntu if I install any compatible software?

Please share your thoughts and advice.

Best option I've known of for that is WINE. Used it many years ago and it was a technical solution, but not a realistic solution, it had too many problems. I'm sure it's better; however classical advice has always been to find a fully Linux alternative versus persist in trying to get a Windows program working under a Linux environment. Or, continue with dual boot and go to Windows when you need to run that program.

Hi...

In and of itself, no. However, it's possible your program might be able to run using WINE (or Winetricks.) I would first check with GEM Systems (and possibly Microsoft) to make sure that running their program under a different platform (Linux) does not violate their EULA. If you get the green light from both companies, you will need to install .NET in WINE before GEMLinkPlus. Please see the threads here and here for additional information and instructions. :)

dot-net was recently made open source.

Here's an article by someone who has started using it on Linux.

Here's another article about dot-net on non-Windows platforms.

Full disclosure: I have never used dot-net and have no way of evaluating the articles.

Thanks guys for all your inputs. I will check the tool WINE and see if it is running. Also, I will contact GEMSYS to find out it out.
