How can I make Xine open .wmf files?

I've RTFM'd and looked at previous questions, and I cannot figure this out. So may as well ask. When I click on a .wmf file (or an .mpg file, or whatever) I would like for Xine to open it and do it's thing. Instead, Totem (which appears to be totally useless) tries to open it and then whines about not being able to do it. Surely there must be an easy way to associate a file-type with an application. Ah, the mysteries of lerning a new operating system . . .

I am running Fedora Core 4, by the way (need to update my profile here).

That is part of the answer, but I did some searching and finally came up with the complete answer. The secret is to make xine the default application (and I made a typographical error in the original post -- it should have read "wmv" rather than "wmf"). It is explained in an article at and that solved my problem very nicely.
