How can I make Linux Mint look like Windows XP
Can I some how, some way make Linux Mint look like Windows XP?
|
there is a Youtube video for that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9T-7BEJpwcI
Also look for a cript called XpGnome.tar.gz Good luck to you. |
That video is using an older version of Mint that is using Gnome 2. Mint 12 is using Gnome 3 with Cinnamon. It may be possible that the description will work with MATE (which also comes with Mint 12), but I personally think it would be easier to switch to LXDE, it already resembles somewhat the look of XP.
Just out of curiosity, why do you want your system to look like XP? I personally think that is not such a great interface. |
Windows XP was (and always will be) my favorite. When I bought my laptop it came with vista (which I hate) so I would just like Linux OS but with XP style.
And the link this guy used was brokin but can I use this website to go to it click here ( http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Deskt...me-52808.shtml ) (WOT said it was good) |
Seems to be what you need. Keep in mind that this will not work with Gnome 3, but may be with the MATE desktop (a fork of Gnome 2). Both should be pre-installed on Mint 12.

I know this thread is old, but the Luna theme (used to make Linux look like XP) has been converted to GTK3 and now works properly on the MATE and GNOME2 desktop environments. The older version of the Windows XP Theme had some glitches in the latest version of Ubuntu running MATE 1.6. However, those issues have been fixed with the conversion.
The updated theme can be downloaded here (this version also contains an installer): http://www.winxp4life.tk#linux |
