How can I install Wine without being conected to the internet?
I want to switch over to Unbutu 9.10 and I intend to run some .exe files on it. But to do that I need to install Wine. Unfortunately the only way I found to do that requires being connected to the internet in Unbutu. And I can connect to internet only by pluging in a modem and running executable file afterwards which is something I can't currently do with Unbutu.

Though using Synaptic to install Wine will help you reduce your headache a lot, you can still install wine from the precompiled sources or compile manually from source.
Go to > http://www.winehq.org/download/ < Download the Ubuntu packages, install and use. |
Didn't quite managed to do it. Looks like I'm not yet so familiar with the linux environment.
Could you give me detailed step by step instructions? |
I think apt-offline may solve your problem. Basically using this tool you should be able to download the wine packages on you windows box, put them on a usb stick (or similar) and then install them on your debian box.

Also, I think you would be better trying to get your network working instead of using this sort of hack. I strongly suggest you start another thread explaining the network problems. Cheers, Evo2. |
