How can I install/remove packages graphically in fedora core 6???
I have Fedora core 6 installed in my computer along with Windows XP.
I want to install some packages graphically, as I am a new to linux. When I open Add/remove software from the Application menu, it gives the following message:
title:
"Unable to retrieve software information"
body:
"Unable to retrieve software information. This could be caused by not having a network connection available."
details:
"Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: core"
Now, I don't know how to fix this problem can anyone help me???
I don't know which network connection is it reffering to, Internet or local????
I have a network card in my PCI, but there is only one computer in my home. so there is no network.
And I cannot also connect Internet from linux because I use a wireless phone which's driver is not available for linux so I use it only in windows.
If you want to install from CD/DVD, just insert it and look at the files in the RPMS directory in File Browser. Right click on the package you want to install and you will be able to install it.
Do you want to install from CD/DVD? That is all you can do without an internet connection.
Insert your CD/DVD and an icon will come up on your desktop. Click on this to browse files. Change to the Fedora directory. Right click on the file/package you want to install and choose software installer. This will let you install the package.
This a graphical method of installing. The manual way would be to use the rpm command at a terminal.
Distribution: Ubuntu 12.10, Ultimate Edition 3.5, OZ Unity 3.0 Black Opal

Just double click on any .rpm package you want to install. A dialog box will appear asking for root password. Type in the root password and click
" OK". This will start the graphical installation.
