How can I install Linux on a laptop with Windows ME.
I have an HP Pavilion Laptop N5195 on which I am currently running Windows ME. I want to install LINUX-Mandrake 8.2 along side Windows ME, but I don't want to wipe my drive clean to do so. Is it possible to install Linux on my laptop and maintain the current data?:newbie: Please explain or point me in the right direction.

First u need to use PartitionMagic (www.powerquest.com ) to create linux partition on your harddrive. Then install linux. But remember, if u are using laptop, your kernel must have some modules for laptop support (but it is not difficult to configure kernel, especially using xconfig).
I think graphical installation (e.g. Mandrake) will solve this problem quickly |
the very first thing I did was to defragment the disk using ME tools. Then I proceeded with the Partition magic. I did not loose any ME stuff but at the same time I don't use it either.:p
