How can I install drivers necessary to get my wireless card working? (RTL 8191SE vB)

With nearly all Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Linux Mint being the exceptions), my system never seems to recognize that my laptop even has a wireless card attached to it. That is, when I run "lspci" the wireless card doesn't even show up on the list like it does with Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mint. This narrows my options when it comes to choosing a distro to install on my computer.

I can't seem to find instructions as to how I can make my wireless card work. I assume it needs a driver. I managed to find the driver, I think, in the form of a .tar.gz file. I have no idea what to do with it though. Can anyone help me out?

The card is a Realtek Semiconductor, RTL 8191SEvB Wireless Lan Controller (rev 10).

Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere or if I missed something obvious. Feel free to just guide me in the right direction.
