i have installed linux yesterday for first time , and booted to the interface and everything was perfect ,but now when i turned my computer on i get the command line and root userID and password , i enter both of them and i stay on the screen that looks like Dos , how can i go to teh interface where everything is , the GUI and interface that is similar to windows , my second questions is , why do i have to keep the floppy boot disk inserted to boot up linuy , why doesn't boot from teh hard drive . i think it's called the graphical login , and i checked the inittab but was set to runlevel 5

What distribution of linux are you using? It looks like the X wasn't configured during install, so you need to reconfigure it, depending on the distro there are different tools to do so, the most general is to run
xf86cfg from the command prompt. The second question is related to dual boot setup (I believe I guessed correctly by stating it is a dual boot setup you have, meaning there is another OS on your system besides linux). For this to be answered we need to know what is this another OS - windows 95/98/Me, win NT/2000/XP or any other.
