How can I get rid of Gxine?

Using: Slack12, KDE.

I like xine, but Gxine is trying to take over.

When I open media files online sometimes xine starts up and sometimes Gxine starts up, its really frustrating.
I changed the player options in my browser to use xine only but Gxine still starts up.
I went into file associations in KDE and changed all the video files to open with xine but then dont always.
Is there a way to eliminate Gxine alltogether?
Thanks.

It shouldn't do, as xine is in separate packages.
