How can I get "new windows" to group in my taskbar?

Right now, when I minimize a window in Firefox, It just goes down to the lower right corner of the screen and dissapears. I don't mind just using tabs, but would really like to open new windows and be able to minimize and maximize them. I'm using a gnome desktop. . . . and yes, I really am clueless. im sure theres something really simple I need to do, but am unaware of what it could be . . . I've been looking for quite a while now, and know it's probably a stupid question.

Have you tried right clikning the link you want to open and selecting "Open Link in new Window"? I think you can also change Firefox prefrences in "Edit->Preferences->Tabs" and change "Open links from other applications in:" to "a new window".

Thanks for responding! but no, I'm ok with that. The problem is when I try to minimize extra windows, . . . they literally disappear, that is, I have no way of maximizing them again because they do not fall into the system tray like they do on kde or windows.

That shouldn't happen.

A tab for the window should appear somewhere on your desktop panel. Make sure that you have the Window List applet on your panel (if tabs are present on the panel for other windows, then the window list applet is running). As far as I know, Gnome doesn't group windows (and if it does, then I turned that feature off somehow and can't remember how to turn it back on).

I can't say how to fix the problem. It might be that you have an old version of Firefox with some sort of silly bug? I'm running 1.5.0.1 and I can see all the Firefox windows I open in the panel.

A way to find your missing minimised window might be to use Alt-Tab.

If that doesn't help, another work around might be to add the Window Selector Applet to your panel. Do this by right-clicking the panel, and selecting "Add to panel" and then choose Window Selector.

Good luck
