Unhappy How can I get Konqueror to connect to host? (ISP=Virgin Media)

I am just starting to set up my computer with kubuntu (Dapper Drake).
So far, I have managed to get the internet working through a Speedtouch 330 modem.

But I cannot get the web browser to work (Konqueror).
It says that it could not connect to host.

I have noticed that in the Konqueror instructions, it says: "Unfortunately the details of how to establish the connection depend on the service provider and to some extent on which Linux/UNIX® distribution you are using. Some ISPs connect their customers to the Internet through a proxy server, in which case you will have to set up Konqueror to use it."

My ISP is Virgin Media, but I couldn't find any help on their website. I have non-cable broadband. Does anyone know how I can establish the connection in order to get Konqueror to work? I really haven't got the first clue, so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

You say that "you have the Internet working." Which of the internet services can you use ?
Have you tried using Firefox to web browse ? If Firefox does not work you should begin by checking your Firefox network preferences.
Edit->Preferences->Advanced and then click on the Network tab. In the Connection box check your "settings." From there you can configure your proxies to use a direct, manual or automatic connection to the net.

I knew the internet was working because I could run apt-get update.

Thank you for that advice. I installed Firefox and it worked straight away! Yay! I have set it as my default web browser so I don't need to use Konqueror ever again.

Thanks again!
