I keep seeing this 'compiz' word everywhere.. i don't know... what do i need to do to get all these super cool effects?

those are very cool desktops but I would be afraid that they would slow me down? I am not sure but seems like they would take up a lot of memory (processing power threads etc.)?
but i like to try some of them myself!

BTW I saw similar to the last one in a MAC a few years ago. point the mouse and the icon would bubble up :)

:)

BTW, cool thing is that I already have Hardy 8.04 on my desktop so its a breeze just went to synaptic pkg mgr and install it off the list.

Compiz Fusion is a seriously powerful extension to Gnome
Hmmm.. It says GNOME.. But I am not using GNOME, I'm using KDE.. Is it for GNOME only?? :(:(

Excuse my language ;)

If you are using KDE 4.2 you do not need to install Compiz. Kwin has native desktop composition. Launch System Settings (wrench & screwdriver icon), go to Desktop -> Desktop Effects to enable the effects. Here you can also configure which effects to use, their keyboard shortcuts etc.

heh, I just saw that it still shows me as a LQ Newbie. Wow, still shows me using Mandrake and XP too! Guess I need to update my profile! Guess I haven't posted here in a while.

I have been an avid user of Linux since 2004. So while I am a LQ newbie, I am relatively experienced, don't worry.

@openSauce You didnt have to be so rude..

I think I've got a problem here..

Quote:

root@creepy-desktop:/home/creep# apt-get install compiz-kde
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
compiz-kde: Depends: libplasma2 but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

And if you try to install libplasma2...? Do you drop further down the dependency well?
cheers,

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as aggressive. Tone of voice gets lost on the internet. But for simple questions you'll often get quicker answers by searching than by asking at the forums.

I get those effects when I'm drunk, don't want them when I'm sober.

Matey 03-11-2009 04:33 AM

No go for me? :(

I re checked all items as shown in that web page but still nothing happens??

may be I need a drink?
:D

brianL 03-11-2009 05:04 AM

Those are just still images of the effects, not the effects themselves. Have a drink anyway. :)
