Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

I want to know how can I add a setting to alsamixer, most exactly the SYNTH setting, which is not there by default. I'm trying to get MIDI out, and it actually works, but emits no sound. Using ALSA 0.9
You can not add SYNC in alsamixer. To use MIDI with ALSA you have to search for some howtos to setup the instrument library and other settings. Its easier to use timidiy or other MIDI emulated programs.
No, what I mean is that the MIDI actually works, but I can't hear anything cause the SYNTH volume is muted or something. I need a way for unmuteing it (on howtos I didn't found that)
I know what you mean. You have to search harder or use timidiy. I suggest using timidiy because it is a lot harder to setup sound card's builtin MIDI in Linux.
