Hello. Welcome to LQ.
I haven't tried this for a while but installing aMSN used to work. Look for it in your package manager. I think kmess in KDE also works.

Most distributions come with Pidgin, Empathy, or Kopete. All of these messenger clients have the ability to chat via MSN.

Open source chat managers are very good because allow you to add people from different networks. Pidgin will let you add your contacts from Hotmail, Yahoo, Google, and many more in just one program.

Same thing with Empathy and Kopete. I think they all support video chat as well but I am not sure about it though.

if you MUST use Microsofts MSN's "garbage" Hotmail( the #1 easiest and MOST hacked mail system in the Known Universe )

this install the Firefox plugin "User Agent Switcher"
and set it to tell msn that you ARE windows 7 using IE9
instead of firefox on Linux

MSN actively BLOCKS loging on using Linux
