hostname takeover
 

It seems someone took over the hostname of my PC. It used to be "localhost" and becomes something I never heard about: "reznikag3979l.interdigital.com". Is it some kind of virus?

The linux version is fedora 2 and the local network use dhcp.

UGH! I am trying to answer this by posting a URL that has the answer.

Anywho, if you go to google, and check out "hostname linux" you will see a site called cpqlinux and they have a page called hostname.html, they can show you how to perm set this.

Also, the DHCP server can, in most cases, set a new hostname for your computer remotely. This makes the IP and hostname match through the DNS system.

DHCP Is Working
 

Your machine is still called "localhost". You can also access it by the localhost IP address, which is the loopback address 127.0.0.1.

DHCP is assigning a hostname to the machine as it is connected to the internet. Great thing about the name is you should be able to ping your machine from anywhere using its name, even if your actual IP address is dynamic.

Is interdigital your ISP? If it isn't, then I'd be worried.

Thanks for all the advice. The interdigital is not my ISP. I'm afraid my machine has been hacked.

What evidence is there to support your machine having been hacked? It could be a DHCP misconfiguration somewhere.
