Hostname and VNC in FC 6, please help me!
Hi All,
Please help me to change hostname and config vnc under feodra core 6. Thank you very much. |
Hello, wecome to LQ!
Could you maybe be more specific in your question? I mean, have you tried anything yet? Where are you in the process, ie, have you installed VNC yet? |

First, I'd like to change PC name after install FC 6. Next, I'd like to use VNC from window to remote this server. So, please kindly show me step by step to do it Thanks a lot |
If you are running gnome, I think it's under network settings that you change the hostname (sorry, I don't use the gui on my fc6 box).
From terminal, you can change it in /etc/sysconfig/network. I don't think the hostname command changes it permanently in FC6 |
Fired up an FC6 gui - looks like its the DNS tab under System -> Administration -> Network

My scenario: I just changed hostname to mylinux then use ifconfig to show IP address. Next, from PC running window ping mylinux cannot find this host. Tracert via IP address just get the default name when install FC6 not mylinux. Could you give me advice ? |
What's the default name?
Inability to ping simply relates to name resolution - ie your windows mchine doesn't know where to find your linux machine. If you don't want to run a DNS server, you'll find a file on your windows machine called host or hosts that you should be able to add an IP and name to find the linux box |
