Host Based Server Monitoring
Hello All,
Forgive me if this is the incorrect section, but I would like to know what is a comprehensive host based monitoring tool, like nagios that is easy to install and configure.I have worked with nagios before and if you are making changes or adding new servers (without grouping) it can get rather tedious and even still you have to log onto every server and define the monitoring rules. I would like to know if there are any other monitoring tools that are simpler but similar? Thank you |
Without knowing your skill set, it is likely none are "easy to install and configure".
What are you seeking to monitor? |
I am not sure how I can relay to you how skilled I am lol, but I do ok as a linux admin for 10 years.(I know it can be configured and installed easier through puppet, but checking here to see if there is a more user friendly tool, similar to newrelic where you just install the agent and thats it) I am seeking to monitor aws ec2 instances.

Hi, If you have been working with Nagios for so long, I recommend you to check this analysis among Zabbix, Nagios and Pandora FMS. http://blog.pandorafms.org/zabbix-vs...th-comparison/
For AWS monitoring you can find in the Amazon market those apps: https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/B01HRQ5BFI?sr=0-2 https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/p...ookaa_site_web Hope it helps |
If you're used to Nagios then take a look at www.Centreon.com it's a "fork" of Nagios that comes as a CentOS based distro and includes an excellent GUI front-end that makes configuration easier. As a bonus it also does graphing, dashboards, all the nice things that Nagios needs add-ons for.

zabbix for ec2 hosts here.
No reporting however. Other tools for that. zabbix-agent most repos. One file edit. (re)start agent. Done. |
