Home directory permissions changing haphazardly...

Hi folks,

I've opened up a few user's home directories on my Linux box, and set the permissions to 755. Oddly enough, the permissions change back to the original values (711) on a regular basis - without any help from me. I'm running the usual server tools on the box, Apache, samba, mysql, and so on. Does any of these programs set the permissions automagically, or should I look somewhere else?

Asks a somewhat confused

Zup

It sounds like something distro specific - what distro are you using?

Mandrake 10.1

Mandrake uses a program called msec to check permissions of certain system files and I think certain directories as well. There should be something in the mandrake control center that lets you change this.

OK, that sounds plausible. The option

CHECK_PERMS if set to yes, check permissions of files in the users' home.

sounds like the option to focus on...if anybody has a quick answer to this I'd be more than happy to hear about it.

Cheerio,

Zup
