Ho do I install desktop icon for installed program?
I have installed SUSE 9.0 on PC and have Installed Mozilla Firebird and Thunderbird, but no desktop icons were installed and no program in the application menu. I created a shortcut to my desktop for the programs, but the icon is just a little white box . It works fine and launches my programs, but would like to install icon. Please tell me how to do this. Thanks to all.
Just as a guess, I don't run suse, have you right clicked on the icon and gotten properties from it? IF it's possible...maybe it shows the current icon in the properties box and you can click on that which opens another window with which you can select icons from?
There is no icon in the properties box. The icon is located in the program folder, but when I open it in file manager and drag and drop it to the desktop, it comes out as a file and not the image???
This is all assuming you're in KDE, SuSE's default desktop:
Right click on the icon you've made, and click "Properties." There should be a big button to the left of the field that lets you enter the icon's title. Click on it. Another dialog should pop up with some icons. It's quite intuitive, you could figure out how to get a nice icon. Click OK. Click Ok again. That should do it.
Next time you make an icon, click on that button before you click Ok so that you won't have to right click on the button after it gives you the blank page icon. Hope that helps.
