Hmmmm, Lots of Problems
 

YAAAY FOR ME I FINALLY GOT LINUX TO WORK! Unfortuanatly wit lots of problems. First I have att broadband cable..... I have the cd but it requires Internet Explorer to be installed, I dont know why. Under Windows it runs as a 3com 3C460B 10/100 Mbps USB Ethernet Network Adapter and the drivers are somewhere on the install cd..... can someone give me an example of how to load these manually? Is it possible?

My other major problem is when somethings loading these small lines appear on the screen..... I think its just cause I might have selected the wrong video card settings but mine wasnt listed on the list so i just chose the closest sounding one. Mines a S3 ProSavage. Does anyone know how to fix this? Any help on either would be greatly appreciated.

I have att broadband too. To get it running I had to use windows (really unhappy about that considering I had recently reinstalled Redhat with no window partition!). So I re-re-installed and put windows on a small partion so that I could use their install disk. I then had to use windows to get the dns numbers, the techs said they couldn't provide them for me. Unfortunatley I can't remember how I did it at the dos prompt.

As for as your ethernet card is concerned, it may have already been configured in your kernel. Once you get the internet connection on windows going, go into linux and see if it's there. If you can ping your dns numbers you're on. If you can't, you may have to compile your kernel with the appropriate ethernet card modules.

There may be a way to get the connection to your place without going through windows, but I couldn't tell you how. Good luck.

AHAHAHHAHHHAHAHAHHAHAH your funny. I really do feel sorry for all the trouble you went through....... All i had to do was go into linux and tamper with the settings for 30 minutes..... finally it got going. On mine i just disabled the dns and made it automaticly obtain my ip address. I still have that stupid problem with lines going accross my screen so if anyone can help.

jeez, I feel sorry for me to. You might try screwing with xf86config for the video problem - but then again my last piece of advice was not worth taking...

check with www.xfree86.org to get the driver status - there's support for most of the s3 savage cards, iirc.
