High CPU Usage and 12 zombies???

hi

some people reported a very slow system so I checked my Linux red hat server 5.0 and found a high CPU usage by a cimserver (ibm director agent 99%) so I killed the process but now I see some zombie processes

Code:
Tasks: 214 total, 1 running, 201 sleeping, 0 stopped, 12 zombie
Code:
[root@~]# ps -el | grep Z
F S UID PID PPID C PRI NI ADDR SZ WCHAN TTY TIME CMD
0 Z 0 7274 3085 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sh <defunct>
4 Z 51 7756 7736 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sendmail <defunct>
4 Z 51 9632 9612 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sendmail <defunct>
4 Z 51 9846 9826 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sendmail <defunct>
4 Z 51 11013 10993 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sendmail <defunct>
0 Z 0 11921 3085 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sh <defunct>
4 Z 51 16234 16182 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sendmail <defunct>
4 Z 51 19574 19518 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sendmail <defunct>
4 Z 51 20219 20199 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sendmail <defunct>
4 Z 51 21723 21703 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sendmail <defunct>
0 Z 0 23255 3085 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sh <defunct>
4 Z 51 29363 29338 0 78 0 - 0 exit ? 00:00:00 sendmail <defunct>
how can I restart them?
or is it OK to leave them at zombie status?

what could I do?
could my system fail if I leave sh <defunct> and sendmail on zombie status? if yes how to recover them?

thanks a lot

thanks a lot I read the 3 options

Fix the parent process (make it wait); kill the parent; or live with it.

1. Fix the parent.... I suppose it is restarting the parent process am I right?

2. kill parent.... is it risky?

thanks a lot
