Wink hiding the desktop

is there some way by which i can hide my desktop similar to hiding the desktop as in windows?

lock the screen? (xscreensaver comes with a locking program)

or maybe use virtual desktop? (one to do whatever, the other one blank, switch to the blank one (maybe setup a hotkey or something) and it appears that you have nothing going on ??

Depending on the window manager/DE in use, Fluxbox uses hotkeys ALT F1-4 to switch between Virtual Desktops 1 thru 4.

if i use the virtual desktop, how do i hide the icons on my desktop? i tried just simply deleting them, but that doesnt seem to be an option.
