hidden trash bin from my kde desktop
 

I recently installed fedora core 4 on my system... using the kde desktop.. I noticed on one start-up that my trash bin was missing.... does anyone know how to enable it to be viewed again... Your help will be greatly appreciated

You can re-create the link. Click on an empty part of the desktop, select Create New.../Folder. Name it: trash. Click on the button to select an icon.

Click on the Permissions tab, and set permissions as you wish.

Then click on the URL tab, and enter this url: trash:/

Clock on OK to finish.

That's how it's setup on SuSE. Should be something similar for FC.

oh man thanks a lot. I do appreciate it even though I already messed with it enough to figure it out. Its always good to know I can turn to a message board to point me in the right direction. I'm sure that measly problem won't be the last of my posts on here. I'm lovin linux though. I on;y made a partition for 20 gigs for in originally and left my windows with 130... now I'm wanting more as I'm wanting to go back to windows less and less

By the way... I have a 130 gig external hard drive where I keep my music.... I've looked every where and tried about a million things..... would you happen to know how I can make linux read that drive? .....its an ntfs file format

NTFS should be treated as essentially unsupported. Suggest you transfer files to a FAT file system format drive for use with both Windows and Linux.

Some of the later Linux distibutions claim to be able to read NTFS, or even write to it. If you check around here, you will find that those capacities are either nonexistent or very buggy and not reliable in any event.

And I suggest that OP transfers the files to an ext2 or ext3 file system and install that filesystem on the Windows box using, for instance, this.

This gives a modern filesystem for the data which is accessible from both windows and linux. I've set it up on my dual boot laptop (yes, I really do have to boot that laptop into WinXP rather frequently) and it seems to work very well.
