hi there... i'm a newbie with few simple questions :o)

i 'm a newbie so please bear with me. i have a pentium 2 pc (its old) but still works fine.. it has 380MB ram and i bought a new 160gb hard disk for it... since i got intrested in linux i partioned the hard disk and instlled windows xp and fedora core 1 .... (yes i will update it to fedora core 3 in few days) :) oh ya and i dint have any problem with the installation since i was reffering from the book linux for dummies :)

now here are my questions...

1) i'm planning to write certification exams in linux and i was thinking which is a good certification.. the one offered by RED HAT or the SAIR certification.

2) i also wanted to know.. which is the best linux for newbie... i was reading through and found that suse linux is the best ... if u guys have any other please tell me why the others are good so i can learn...

The red hat and SAIR are difficult to compare. Red Hat is definitely better for dealing with Red Hat, and SAIR is distro neutral. If you are only working with redhat, get the RHCE, but if you will be dealing with many versions or a lot of command line linux, the SAIR is invaluable. I've never done the red hat material, but my sair skills have pulled me through my new job, which is red hat exclusive. As far as the best linux for a noobie, in my opinion, that depends. If you want to learn linux, really learn it, as in how it functions under the hood, Slackware is a great way to start. It's a lot harder than starting with something like mandrake or redhat, but its kind of a trial by fire, and you will learn a lot very quickly. If you just want to use it but don't care much about how it happens, Mandrake is best in my opinion.

Always remember that even if the distro has a nice GUI eg RH, you always have the option to open a few xterms and work from the cmd line, until you hit something you can't do or are in a hurry :-)
I usually work from the cmd line, but for eg installing a printer I just hit the GUI...
