Looks like yum was not able to download the packages. This could indicate that your net connection is down or that the mirror you have configured to download packages from is down. Please check your repo config files (usually found in /etc/yum.repos.d, but the exact file names vary based on the distribution). If you're using RHEL, make sure your subscription is up to date and consider talking to paid Red Hat support.

so you set up your one FTP repo
dose it have a few hundreds of gigs of files from the RHN repos ( exaggeration but not by much)

this is RHEL so you did buy the REQUIRED license
so you DO have access to the red hat knowledge base
https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/search
The knowledge base should always be your FIRST stop ( you ARE paying for it , so use it )
-- note you will have to login to the red hat site to use it

just how did you set up this local FTP repo
and just what is in the "local.repo" file that YOU manually wrote

http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Re...de/c1-yum.html

Unhappy No local FTP repo

The name /var/ FTP/pub/rhel60 is just the name of the directory in which the packages and repo is kept .

I am using a free copy from my training institute and using it on VM ware .

The other thing which I found out is the yum is installing packages which has no dependencies for eg vsftpd. But not the ones which have dependencies for eg nfs-utils

In that "free" copy you basically DO NOT install anything
if you are going to use RHEL then BUY the REQUIRED license !
-- no if's and's or but's, you need the required license --
https://www.redhat.com/apps/store/desktop/
or

use one of the FREE rebuilds
CentOS 6.2
http://centos.org/

or ScientificLinux 6.2
http://scientificlinux.org/
