Hi, how does one determine DEFINITIVELY what flavour of Linux OS is running, ie OEL, Rhel, etc.

I see that Oracle Ent Linux servers have a file called

/etc/oracle-release AND
/etc/redhat-release

I need to know for sure which flavour I am running please,

Regards

Tariq

There isn't one, but good indicators are:

Code:
cat /etc/*release
uname -a
gcc -v

inxi is a good cross-platform sysinfo tool.

Code:
inxi -Sxxx
provides info on the system itself. inxi is always being refined so you want to try and obtain a version as up-to-date as possible.

Depending on the distro

[/CODE]cat /etc/*issue*
[/CODE]

may also work.
